Tell Obama - Americans Deserve Justice

It's time for President Obama to demonstrate leadership, not bow to political opposition, and move forward with federal district court trials. Our justice system is strong and effective. We have the tools that we need to convict admitted murderer Khalid Sheik Mohammed, and try the rest of the Guantanamo detainees. We need to use them.

Tell President Obama: Bring Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other suspected terrorists to justice in federal court.

C. Dixon Osburn

Dear President Obama,

It’s past time to bring the perpetrators of 9/11 to justice. As yesterday’s conviction of Ahmed Ghailani shows, federal courts can prosecute terrorism suspects in a way that Americans can be proud of. Please do not bow to political opposition on an issue of such vital importance to our nation’s strength. Trying Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and the rest of the Guantanamo detainees in federal court is not just the right thing to do; it is the most effective way to bring us justice and promote our national security.

Since 9/11, our federal courts have convicted over 400 terrorists. Military commissions have only convicted five, two of whom have already been released. We are confident in the strength of our justice system and we know that we have the tools we need to convict Khalid Sheik Mohammed and try the rest of the Guantanamo detainees in federal court.

In order for us to move forward in combating extremism, we should bring terrorism suspects to justice using the most powerful tools at our disposal: our courts. As our nation’s military leaders have made clear, elevating KSM to the status of a warrior by giving him a military trial would only undermine our larger counterinsurgency efforts. Try KSM and the rest of the Guantanamo detainees in federal court.
