Continue the Fight Against Antigay Discrimination in Uganda
Ugandan Parliamentarian David Bahati has introduced legislation in Uganda that not only outlaws homosexuality but makes “any form of sexual relations between persons of the same sex” punishable by prison or even death. It condemns HIV awareness programs as “promotion of homosexuality” and provides for up to three-year sentences for anyone who does not report all homosexual persons they know to the authorities.
This bill would have disastrous effects for gay men and women in Uganda, would aggravate an already alarming trend of criminalization of homosexuality across Africa, and could spur Ugandan homosexuals to flee this persecution and seek safe refuge outside of the country.
Ask your Congressional representative today to support fundamental rights for for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender persons in Uganda by co-sponsoring resolutions pending in Congress both the House and Senate that condemn the bill’s assault on human rights.
