President Obama: Close Guantanamo Now!
The chorus to close Guantanamo is growing and we need your voice.
According to the Department of Defense, 100 out of the166 Guantanamo detainees are currently on hunger strike, because, as General Kelly of Southern Command has said, many are “devastated” that the prison has not been closed. The intelligence and security agencies have cleared for transfer 86 of the 166 detainees, but they remain stuck at the prison, some for more than a decade.
President Obama responded to the growing alarm over the hunger strikes by pledging to explore all administrative and Congressional options to close the facility. Now it’s time for action.
And we need your help to make the case. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, has pledged her help in transferring detainees out. And Representative Buck McKeon (R - CA), Chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, has said that current law allows the administration to transfer detainees. Write the President and urge him to close Guantanamo now.
Urge the President to close Guantanamo now.
