Urge Secretary John Kerry to Press Syria’s Neighbors to Lift Barriers to Refugee Protection
More than two million Syrians have fled to neighboring countries for refuge. The United Nations estimates another two million will flee over the next year. The Syria refugee crisis is becoming a catastrophe.
Human Rights First went to Jordan and Turkey this month on a fact-finding mission to document firsthand issues facing Syria’s refugees. What we found: Neighboring states are imposing bans, restrictions, closures, and quotas that are leaving many people trapped in Syria. Thousands are stuck on the Syrian side of the border.
The stakes are high. How the United States addresses this refugee crisis will be a critical test for U.S. leadership in the region. Urge Secretary John Kerry to press Syria’s neighbors to lift barriers to refugee protection.
